Discovery Garden at Open Repositories 2025 in Chicago
This week, our CEO Gerry Lawless is in Chicago attending the 20th International Open Repositories Conference (OR2025) at the University of Chicago, a major milestone event themed “Twenty Years of Progress, a Future of Possibilities”
“Open Repositories is where the future of digital preservation takes shape. It’s inspiring to be surrounded by peers who are not just talking about the future of open repositories, they’re building it. Discovery Garden is proud to be part of that global effort, helping institutions make their collections more accessible, resilient, and future-ready.”
— Gerry Lawless, CEO, Discovery Garden

What We’re Excited About
Celebrating two decades of innovation - OR2025 marks a milestone in the evolution of open repository infrastructure, from early experimentation to today’s robust, interconnected ecosystems.
Keynotes and deep-dive sessions - Thought leaders, including Heather Joseph (SPARC) and Ben Zhao (AI Researcher) are speaking to the community’s journey and future. One of the things we're most excited about is the new “Repository Showdown” whereby Islandora takes centre stage along with other repositories built on other platforms.
Community engagement - With hundreds of attendees from universities, libraries, cultural heritage institutions, and open-source communities, OR brings together practitioners dedicated to open access, preservation, sustainability, and interoperability. And we get to make new friends.
